Mr. C. N. Raghavendran is a practicing Architect and Managing Director of M/s. C. R. Narayana Rao (CRN), a family firm of Architects & Engineers based in Chennai. The firm takes its name after its founder and his father,
late Mr. C. R. Narayana Rao. A Multi Disciplinary Design & Consultancy Firm established about 70 years ago, CRN provides comprehensive Consultancy Services including Architecture, Interiors, Master Planning, Structural & Civil Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering and Construction Management. As one of the Partners of CRN since 1968 and currently the Managing Director, Mr.Raghavendran has provided leadership and is significantly responsible in making CRN one of the largest and most successful firms in India today.
Born on March 14, 1944, Mr. Raghavendran received his Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) from IIT, Kharagpur (1965) and Master of Architecture Degree from University of California at Berkeley, USA (1967). He has been responsible for the Design, Engineering & Implementation of a wide variety of projects Pan India and abroad including UAE, Mauritius, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Guyana, Malaysia and Zambia. Having successfully delivered projects for the Central Government, PSU and many State Governments, his other works include projects for Indian & Foreign Multinational Corporations, Foreign Governments such as British Consulate, Canadian Consulate, Australian Consulate & Japanese Consulate, Mauritian Government, US Clients viz., Oracle, Amazon, Intel, Capgemini, GE, General Motors, DuPont, Johnson & Johnson, Ford, Timken, Silicon Graphics, Computer Associates etc., Private Sector Industries, Educational Institutions and Projects in Healthcare, Hospitality and Sports Infrastructure Sectors, Software Industry, Commercial Sector many of which have been recognized as innovative and trendsetting.
Notable amongst his contributions to the field of Design in Architecture are :-
Introduction of Innovative Building Technology in Design & Construction, as evidenced in his pioneering work in use of Pre-cast & Pre-Stressed buildings such as in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadia at Chennai & Cochin which resulted in faster construction, reduction of building weight and construction waste, eventually saving structural materials by providing longer spans.

Incorporation of Passive Design features as Climate Responsive Design seen in a 450-seater auditorium built for Kalakshetra, a reputed institution of Performing Arts in Chennai (known for its warm & humid climate), during the early 1980s, with no electromechanical interventions except for the audio visual systems & stage lighting, is a standing example to date, of his design acumen in delivering sustainable, low energy buildings.
Environmental conscious approach to Design of High Performance Buildings, as seen in the use of Intelligent Design Features in TIDEL Park (Chennai’s first multi-tenanted IT Park) and the Ebene Cyber Tower in Mauritius have resulted in energy efficiency and reduced operating costs. The latter was awarded the ‘Intelligent Building of the Year – 2005’ by Intelligent Communities Forum, an independent Think-Tank based in New York, US, after evaluating over 200 international entries.
This established Design commitment in practice of Green Building Concepts resulted in him being selected as Chairman LEED India (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a Program established in India to rate Green Buildings. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Govt of India which has initiated the Energy Conservation in Building Code (ECBC) has identified Mr.Raghavendran as a Resource Person for improving understanding and promotion of ECBC norms among stakeholders of the Building Industry.
Mr. Raghavendran’s contribution to Architectural Education deserves special mention. As member of the AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education, All India Board of Studies); Governing Council of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad & Academic Council of the Anna University, Chennai he has contributed significantly to the Advancement and Revamping of the Technical Education of Architecture in India, to suit the evolving needs of the Industry. He has held offices in several Professional Organizations such as Chairman of the Chennai Chapter, IGBC, a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), of which he was the Chairman of Tamil Nadu Chapter in early 80s and a member of the International Affairs Board of IIA and an International Associate of the American Institute of Architects. As Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Glass Academy, he has advocated dissemination of special knowledge & skills required in the use of Glass as a modern & sustainable material in Architectural applications amongst various stakeholders in this field. He has also been a mentor and inspiration to many young Architects and Engineers entering the profession in addition to the third generation of the founder’s family who are now part of the practice. He was also appointed as a Member of the High Power Committee for development of Administrative City at the outskirts of Chennai in 2002. He is also the Executive Committee Member of The Children’s Garden School Society, Chennai where he started his education.
Mr. C.N.Raghavendran had been a Jury Member in the selection committee for Hall of Fame initiated by ACREX. Economic Times Smart Green Awards & Summit and NDTV Design and Architecture Awards, Aces of Space Awards, Emerson Cup Awards, Architect and Interiors India Awards, Indian Architect & Builder – Innovations In Concrete Competition etc.
Mr. Raghavendran is a recipient of several awards including the coveted Padma Shri in 2011, IIA Design Excellence Award in 1995 and the prestigious Architect of the Year Award in 1996. He was also the recipient of Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) ‘Hall of Fame’ Award in 2012, IIT Kharagpur’s Distinguished Alumnus Award received from the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in 2011, Paterson Cancer Center Award in 2003 and from several Professional Publications such as The Economic Times ACETECH Award 2007, Construction World Top Ten Architects Awards in 2007, 2009 & 2010, CWAB Platinum Award of Excellence. Has received Special Trophy / Commendation Certificates for Professional Services rendered by him for Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai and Stadia designed for holding South Asian Federation Games 1995, received from the Chief Minister, Government of Tamilnadu. His works have been featured in several Foreign & Indian books, Professional Journals & the press.

Prof. Samir Mathur, graduated from the Masters program for Landscape Architecture at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. He has been practicing in Delhi for more than two decades. His landscape design practice ‘Integral Designs International Studio Pvt. Ltd.’ has been involved in a variety of projects ranging from Urban Parks to Sustainable City Designs. He is also associated with academics, teaching at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and has delivered lectures and papers at various International and National venues.His work in Masterplanning of cities along the Yamuna riverfront was presented as a paper on ‘Greenways in India’ at the Fabos Conference on Landscape and Greenway Planning at Amherst, USA (2013).
His design philosophy respects local traditions and environmental factors to maximize the inherent potentials of the site and architecture. He is an International member of the American Society of Landscape Architecture (ASLA) and is intrinsically involved in the activities of the Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA).
He is a member of the Heritage Conservation Committee, Government of India and a member of the Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC).

Dean D’Cruz – a graduate in architecture is actively involved both in his profession as well as in academics as a Visiting Faculty in the Goa College of Architecture since 1987. He has conducted numerous workshops and seminars on architecture, planning and the environment in over 20 cities across India as well as in the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and Canada. His works and articles have been published in leading magazines in India and abroad. Supported the Royal Art and Architecture Academy, Stockholm, Oxford Brookes University,UK and PRATT University New York for their
architectural and planning programs in Goa.
He is a Partner and Principal Architect in MOZAIC DESIGN COMBINE’, a leading design firm based in Goa, involved in Urban Intervention, Architecture, Conservation, Product and Graphic Design. Mozaic strives to provide holistic solutions to its patrons. Our engagement often transcends the boundaries of project briefs and enter the realms of new experiences. We explore prospects of symbiotic growth of our clients with nature and encourage sustainable practices in architecture as well as industrial products..
We in the architectural wing of Mozaic have designed around India over 250 houses, 50 hotels, 30 housing complexes, and about 30 institutions, offices and factories. While most of our projects today are in the area of hospitality, we are also striving to make social impact in the areas of education, health care and micro / eco living.
